Caitlin's Joy - Fall
Caitlin’s Joy is one of those dahlias that proves a flower does not need to be huge to make an impression. Its compact miniature ball blooms are packed with perfectly rolled petals and carry a rich blend of raspberry, mauve, plum, coral, and salmon tones that can shift noticeably as the season progresses.
That changing color is part of what makes this variety so much fun to grow. Some blooms lean brighter and more raspberry pink, while others develop a smokier mauve or purple cast. It is one of those flowers I find myself looking at twice because the color never feels completely predictable.
In our market bouquets, Caitlin’s Joy is a true workhorse. The smaller ball form is incredibly easy to tuck between larger focal flowers, and the saturated color brings depth without overpowering the rest of the bunch. It pairs beautifully with blush, peach, burgundy, lavender, cream, and deeper berry tones.
This is also exactly the kind of dahlia I like sending to local florists. The plants are known for strong stems and generous production, and that combination matters when you are cutting week after week. The flowers have enough structure to hold their own in detailed designs while still being small enough to use almost anywhere.
For weddings, Caitlin’s Joy can move in several directions depending on what surrounds it. Paired with blush and peach, it feels warm and romantic. Mixed with burgundy and plum, it becomes moodier and more sophisticated. That versatility makes it especially useful during late summer when wedding palettes begin to deepen.
What I appreciate most about Caitlin’s Joy is that it earns its place in the field. It is beautiful, productive, easy to design with, and constantly changing just enough to keep things interesting.
For the gardener who loves rich color, tidy ball-shaped blooms, and a dahlia that truly performs as a cut flower, Caitlin’s Joy is a wonderful variety to grow.
