Kelgai Ann - Fall
Kelgai Ann is one of those dahlias that feels almost too romantic to be real. The blooms open in the softest blend of blush pink, creamy white, and pale yellow, with subtle variations from flower to flower that give them a beautiful watercolor quality.
The waterlily form is what really makes Kelgai Ann special. Broad petals open outward in graceful layers, creating a flatter, softer silhouette than the tightly packed decorative and ball dahlias growing nearby. At roughly 4–6 inches across, the flowers are substantial enough to be noticed while still feeling light and airy.
In our market bouquets, Kelgai Ann is a flower I reach for when I want everything to feel a little softer. It blends beautifully with blush, cream, peach, dusty rose, pale yellow, and other romantic garden tones, and it has a way of making the entire bouquet feel more delicate and intentional.
For our local florists, the appeal is obvious. Waterlily dahlias bring a completely different shape to the design bucket, and Kelgai Ann's pastel coloring makes it incredibly easy to work with. It adds movement and openness among fuller focal flowers without competing for attention.
But wedding work is where I think this variety truly shines. Kelgai Ann looks completely at home in bridal bouquets, centerpieces, and garden-inspired arrangements. The soft blush coloring feels timeless, and the open petal form gives the flower the romantic, freshly gathered look that I love in wedding florals.
The plants can reach around 3½–4½ feet tall and produce blooms on stems suitable for cutting. Because the flowers are relatively substantial for a waterlily form, I make sure the plants have good support as they grow.
For the gardener who loves soft blush color, graceful waterlily blooms, and flowers that look as though they were made for a bridal bouquet, Kelgai Ann is a very special variety to grow.
