20th Ave for Mom - Fall
Some dahlias whisper. 20th Ave For Mom does not.
This little miniature ball comes out of the field in a wonderfully saturated dark pink that immediately wakes up a bouquet. The blooms are compact, round and beautifully packed with petals, giving them that polished little “button” shape that makes ball dahlias so useful when I am designing.
On the farm, I love flowers like this because they solve a problem. When a market bouquet needs a stronger pop of color, For Mom can pull everything together. When a florist is looking for something richer than blush but not quite red, it falls into that sweet spot. And in wedding work, these blooms are especially pretty tucked among softer pinks, burgundies, creams and garden greenery where their deeper color creates contrast without taking over the arrangement.
At approximately 3½ inches across, the flowers are also an incredibly practical size. They slip easily into hand-tied bouquets, centerpieces and bridal work without adding too much visual weight, yet that saturated pink makes sure they are still noticed.
20th Ave For Mom has also earned the Lynn B. Dudley Medal, recognition that speaks to the quality behind those cheerful little blooms. For me, though, its appeal is much simpler: it is colorful, useful and just plain fun to cut.
If you are looking for a dahlia that brings rich color, beautiful form and plenty of personality to the cutting garden, this one deserves a spot.
