AC Twisp - Fall
AC Twisp is one of those dahlias that keeps you looking a little longer. The blooms are full and beautifully layered, with petals that seem to twist and curl just enough to give the flower movement. Add in the soft blend of pink and yellow, often edged with a stronger pink tone, and every bloom feels slightly different from the last.
That variation is part of what makes Twisp so much fun to grow. Some flowers lean softer and more buttery, while others show more noticeable pink. I love varieties like this in the field because they never feel overly predictable—there is always another bloom worth turning over in your hand for a closer look.
At around 4½ inches, Twisp is also an incredibly useful size for cutting. It gives a market bouquet enough presence to act as a focal flower without taking over the entire bunch. The warm coloring pairs beautifully with blush, peach, cream, soft yellow and richer late-summer tones, making it especially easy to work into the changing palettes of the season.
For florist buckets, the informal decorative form is a real advantage. Those gently twisting petals bring movement that you simply do not get from a perfectly rounded ball dahlia. And for weddings, Twisp can move comfortably between soft romantic designs and more colorful garden-inspired arrangements.
The plants can grow quite tall—around 5½ feet—and are known for producing strong stems and substantial, fully double flowers. That makes AC Twisp more than just an interesting garden variety; it is a dahlia that can genuinely earn its place in a working cutting field.
For the gardener who enjoys softly blended color, loose movement and a flower that looks a little different every time it opens, AC Twisp is an especially rewarding one to grow.
