Appaloosa - Fall

$30.00

Appaloosa is one of those dahlias that immediately looks different from almost everything else in the cutting field.

The blooms are anemone-form, with an outer ring of broad petals surrounding a dense, textured center. The coloring is variegated in raspberry-purple and creamy white, with streaking and patterning that can shift noticeably from flower to flower. Some blooms carry more purple, while others show larger areas of white, giving every stem a slightly different personality.

At approximately 3–4 inches across, the flowers are compact enough to use easily in mixed bouquets, but the unusual center gives them far more visual weight than their size might suggest.

In our market bouquets, Appaloosa is the kind of flower I use when I want something unexpected. It works beautifully with lavender, mauve, blush, cream, raspberry, burgundy, and deeper plum tones. Because the bloom already contains both light and dark color, it can help tie several shades together in the same bouquet.

For our local florists, the real appeal is texture. Anemone dahlias bring a completely different shape into the bucket than ball, decorative, or waterlily forms, and that raised center adds dimension without needing a larger flower.

I especially like Appaloosa for garden-style wedding work. The variegated coloring makes the flower feel collected rather than perfectly uniform, and that fits beautifully into romantic arrangements where variation and movement are part of the design.

What I appreciate most about Appaloosa is that it gives us both color and texture in one stem. The flowers are recognizable, unusual, and interesting enough to make people stop and look more closely.

For the gardener who loves raspberry-purple, creamy white, variegation, and dahlias with an unusual textured center, Appaloosa is a memorable variety to grow.
