Ariston - Fall
Ariston is one of those dahlias whose color is difficult to capture with just one word—and that is exactly what makes it so interesting. The blooms fall somewhere between rusty red, terracotta, warm bronze and muted coral, with subtle shifts in tone that become especially beautiful as the season moves toward fall.
Its classic ball form gives each bloom a wonderfully tidy, rounded shape, with tightly arranged petals creating plenty of texture without making the flower feel heavy. At around 4 inches across, Ariston is also an incredibly useful size for cutting: substantial enough to add presence to a bouquet, but compact enough to tuck easily into mixed arrangements.
In our market bouquets, I love using Ariston when the colors in the field begin to deepen. It pairs naturally with peach, rust, burgundy, cream, dusty rose and other warm late-summer tones, and its earthy coloring has a way of making a bouquet feel rich without becoming overly dark.
This is also a variety I enjoy having available for our local florists. Those nuanced, harder-to-name colors are often some of the most useful flowers in a designer's bucket because they can bridge several shades within the same arrangement. For wedding work, Ariston fits beautifully into romantic autumn palettes, especially when mixed with garden roses, textural flowers and softer neutrals.
There is something especially satisfying about cutting a perfectly rounded ball dahlia on a strong stem, and Ariston delivers exactly that combination of form and color. It is a flower that feels polished without losing the warm, garden-grown character I want from the dahlias we grow.
For the gardener who loves rich, earthy color and beautifully rounded blooms, Ariston is an easy variety to find a place for.
