Barberry Dominion - Fall

Barberry Dominion

Barberry Dominion has the kind of refined beauty that makes it incredibly easy to reach for during harvest. The blooms are a soft, romantic pink with a full formal decorative shape, giving each flower a beautifully layered, polished appearance.

What I like most about this variety is how versatile that coloring is. In our market bouquets, Barberry Dominion works just as easily with blush and cream as it does with deeper rose, burgundy and raspberry tones. It brings softness to a bouquet without disappearing into the background, and the structured petals give the finished bunch a little more presence.

The formal decorative form is also especially useful for florist work. Those broad, evenly arranged petals create a full flower that photographs beautifully and gives designers plenty of visual impact without requiring an oversized bloom. Barberry Dominion is currently grouped by growers with other formal decorative varieties and is consistently listed among pink dahlias.

For wedding work, this is exactly the kind of pink I enjoy having in the field. It can move from a light, romantic bridal palette into something richer and moodier depending on what surrounds it. Paired with whites and soft greenery it feels classic; alongside mauve, burgundy and dusty rose it takes on an entirely different personality.

I also appreciate varieties that look polished without feeling overly perfect. Barberry Dominion has enough structure to feel elegant, but it still carries the lush, garden-grown quality that makes dahlias so special in the first place.

For the gardener who loves romantic pink flowers, beautifully ordered petals and a dahlia that can move effortlessly from the garden to the design table, Barberry Dominion is a lovely variety to grow.
