Bell's Otago - Fall

$22.00

Bell’s Otago is one of those dahlias that seems to change every time you look at it. The blooms carry a beautiful blend of apricot, peach and rose pink, often softening toward the center in a way that gives each flower a warm, almost glowing quality.

The informal decorative form keeps the petals loose and relaxed rather than overly structured, which is exactly what I love about it. At roughly 4–5 inches across, the blooms are large enough to add presence to a bouquet, but still easy to work into mixed arrangements without taking over.

In our market bouquets, Bell’s Otago is especially useful when I want to build a softer, romantic color story. It blends beautifully with blush, cream, peach, dusty rose and warm neutrals, but it also has enough depth to sit alongside richer berry or burgundy tones as the season progresses.

For local florist orders, the real appeal is in the color. Those apricot and rose tones give designers plenty of flexibility, and the loose petal form brings movement into arrangements that might otherwise feel too polished. It is the kind of bloom that can tie several shades together without looking forced.

I also love Bell’s Otago for wedding work. It has that soft, garden-grown quality that works beautifully in bridal bouquets, centerpieces and larger installations where the goal is romantic rather than rigid. The blooms feel elegant, but never overly formal.

Plants are typically vigorous and tall, often reaching around 5 feet or more, so I make sure they are well supported early in the season. In return, they produce stems that are genuinely useful for cutting and design work.

For the gardener who loves warm blended color, loose petal movement and a dahlia that feels made for romantic bouquets, Bell’s Otago is a beautiful variety to grow.
