Bloomquist Jean - Fall

$22.00

Bloomquist Jean is a dahlia with real presence. The blooms open in a rich, glowing orange that can shift from coppery and golden to deeper pumpkin tones as the season moves along. Add in the loose, recurved petals, and the result is a flower that feels bold, full of movement, and impossible to overlook.

At roughly 6–8 inches across, this is definitely a focal dahlia. The informal decorative form gives the bloom a slightly untamed, almost lion’s-mane quality, which keeps all that size from feeling too stiff or formal. It is exactly the kind of flower I like having in the field when I want something with a little more personality.

In our market bouquets, I usually let Bloomquist Jean do the heavy lifting. One good stem can anchor the entire bunch, especially when paired with peach, cream, rust, burgundy, soft yellow, or other warm late-summer colors. It brings instant richness to a bouquet without needing much help.

For our local florists, the generous bloom size and strong stems make it especially useful for statement work. I can easily picture it in larger centerpieces, ceremony designs, or installations where a few dramatic flowers can create a lot of impact.

It is also a beautiful choice for late-summer and fall weddings. The orange is warm and sophisticated rather than simply bright, and the changing tones can bridge several colors within the same palette. Mixed with dusty rose, copper, burgundy, or softer neutrals, it creates that lush, layered look I love in seasonal wedding flowers.

Bloomquist Jean is also a proven performer on the exhibition bench, earning major recognition within the dahlia world. But for me, its appeal is simpler: it is big, warm, expressive, and incredibly satisfying to cut.

For the gardener who loves dahlias with substantial blooms, rich orange color, and a little wildness in the petals, Bloomquist Jean is a standout.
