Carmen Ella Grace - Fall
Carmen Ella Grace is one of those dahlias that brings instant energy to the field. Its warm flame coloring combines golden yellow, orange, and red tones, while the narrow incurved petals curl inward to create a bloom with movement, texture, and plenty of personality.
At approximately 4–6 inches across, the flowers are large enough to make an impact without becoming difficult to work with. The incurved cactus form gives each bloom an airy, almost sculptural quality that looks completely different from the rounded ball and decorative dahlias growing beside it.
In our market bouquets, Carmen Ella Grace is exactly the kind of flower I reach for when a bunch needs a little spark. It pairs naturally with peach, rust, golden yellow, burgundy, cream, and deeper reds, making it especially useful as the colors in the field begin transitioning from summer into fall.
I also love sending stems like this to our local florists because the shape gives them something different to design with. Those curled petals add movement among more traditional flower forms, and the warm flame coloring can help bridge several shades within the same arrangement.
For weddings, Carmen Ella Grace works beautifully when the palette calls for warmth and character. A few blooms can bring life to a late-summer centerpiece or add an unexpected textural element to a more romantic arrangement without making the design feel overly formal.
This is also a variety with proven exhibition quality. Its strong form and distinctive coloring have earned recognition on the show bench, but what matters most to me as a flower farmer is that it brings something genuinely different to the cutting bucket.
For the gardener who loves warm color, unusual petal movement, and a dahlia that refuses to look ordinary, Carmen Ella Grace is a fun and distinctive variety to grow.
