Isabel - Fall
Isabel is one of those dahlias whose color is nearly impossible to capture in a single photograph. The blooms can read as lavender, dusty rose, pinkish peach, soft magenta, or even carry hints of bronze and coral depending on the light and stage of the flower. That shifting, almost iridescent quality is exactly what makes it so special.
Its ball form is beautifully rounded and tightly packed, giving each bloom a polished shape without feeling overly formal. At roughly 3 inches across, Isabel is also an incredibly practical size for cutting—small enough to tuck between larger focal flowers, but substantial enough to bring color and structure into the bouquet.
In our market bouquets, this is the kind of dahlia I can use almost anywhere. It works beautifully with blush, cream, peach, mauve, burgundy, raspberry, and soft lavender tones, and because the bloom itself carries several of those shades at once, it often becomes the flower that helps tie the entire bunch together.
For our local florists, Isabel offers exactly the qualities I appreciate in a true workhorse. The plants are productive, the stems are useful, and the flower color is complex enough to work across a wide range of palettes. Several growers specifically praise it as a low-maintenance, high-producing variety, which is exactly what I want when the cutting field is in full production.
I also love Isabel for wedding work because it refuses to sit neatly in one color category. In a blush-and-peach palette it can lean warm and romantic; alongside mauve and burgundy it reads cooler and moodier. That ability to shift with the flowers around it makes it incredibly useful in garden-inspired bridal bouquets and centerpieces.
What I appreciate most about Isabel is that it always seems to bring a little surprise. The color is never flat, the blooms are consistently useful, and the plants produce enough stems to make it a variety I can genuinely rely on.
For the gardener who loves color-changing blooms, tidy ball form, and a dahlia that performs beautifully in both the garden and the vase, Isabel is an easy variety to recommend.
