Ms Char - Fall
Ms Char is one of those dahlias that makes a working cutting field feel easy.
The blooms are a clear, pretty pink with just enough tonal variation between the front and back of the petals to give each flower dimension. The topsides of the petals are slightly lighter, while the undersides carry a deeper pink tone, so the flowers never look flat or one-dimensional.
Its miniature ball form is especially useful. The blooms are around 3 inches across, tightly arranged, beautifully rounded, and small enough to slip effortlessly between larger focal flowers.
In our market bouquets, Ms Char is exactly the kind of variety I like to have in abundance. The color is cheerful without being overly bright, and it works beautifully with blush, cream, peach, mauve, raspberry, burgundy, and deeper rose tones.
For our local florists, this one checks nearly every practical box. Triple Wren describes Ms Char as super reliable and productive, with long, strong stems, a tall and richly branched plant habit, and excellent tuber production. Those are the kinds of traits that make a variety genuinely useful beyond just having a pretty bloom.
I also love it for wedding work. Pink is always in demand, but what makes Ms Char especially valuable is the scale of the flower. The smaller ball form gives designers a way to repeat pink throughout a bouquet, centerpiece, or installation without overwhelming the design.
It also has enough structure to bring rhythm to looser garden-style arrangements. A few stems tucked between larger dahlias, lisianthus, roses, or trailing greenery can help everything feel more finished and intentional.
The plants are tall—generally around 4–4½ feet—and branch heavily, which gives us the kind of stem length and production we want from a dedicated cutting variety.
What I appreciate most about Ms Char is that it combines beauty with real farm performance. The blooms are useful, the stems are strong, and the plants are built to keep producing.
For the gardener who loves clean pink color, tidy miniature blooms, and dahlias that work hard in the cutting garden, Ms Char is an excellent variety to grow.
