Orange Hype - Fall

$31.00

Orange Hype is exactly the kind of dahlia that makes people stop at the market table and take a second look.

The outer petals are a glowing soft orange, surrounding a golden-yellow center filled with a lively collar of smaller petals that twist through orange, coral, and vivid pink. That combination creates an almost electric contrast—warm, cheerful, and just a little wild.

Its collarette form is what makes Orange Hype so different from most of the dahlias in the cutting field. Instead of a densely packed center, the bloom has an open face surrounded by a ring of decorative inner petals. At approximately 3–4 inches across, it is compact enough for mixed bouquets but visually interesting enough to hold its own beside much larger flowers.

In our market bouquets, Orange Hype is the kind of variety I use when an arrangement needs energy. It pairs beautifully with peach, coral, hot pink, blush, cream, yellow, raspberry, and even deeper burgundy tones. The pink collar gives it a surprising amount of flexibility because it connects warmer orange flowers with the pinks and roses growing around them.

For our local florists, the real value is texture. A few stems of Orange Hype can completely break up a bucket filled with ball and decorative dahlias. The open center and twisting collar petals give arrangements movement and a more garden-inspired feel.

I especially like it for late-summer wedding work. In peach, coral, blush, and champagne palettes, it adds personality without feeling too heavy. Paired with raspberry or burgundy, the pink tips become more noticeable and the entire flower takes on a richer look.

The plants are vigorous and generally grow around 4–4½ feet tall, producing blooms repeatedly through the season. Triple Wren also notes that Orange Hype holds its petals unusually well for an open-centered form and is a vigorous rebloomer—both very appealing traits for a working cutting garden.

Orange Hype is also reported to be an excellent seed parent, which gives it added appeal for gardeners who enjoy saving dahlia seed and experimenting with their own seedlings.

What I appreciate most about Orange Hype is that it brings something genuinely different to the cutting bucket. The color is bright, the form is playful, and those pink-tipped collar petals make the flower instantly recognizable.

For the gardener who loves orange, coral, hot pink, and dahlias with an unusual open-centered form, Orange Hype absolutely lives up to its name.
