Pink Pearl - Fall

Heirloom

Pink Pearl has the kind of coloring that always seems to find a place in the cutting bucket. The blooms open in the softest blush pink, often with creamy white or champagne tones toward the center, giving each flower a delicate, almost pearlescent finish.

Its classic ball form is beautifully rounded and tightly packed with petals, creating the kind of symmetry that makes dahlias so satisfying to grow. At approximately 3½–4 inches across, the blooms are an ideal size for cutting—large enough to be noticed, but compact enough to layer easily with other flowers.

In our market bouquets, Pink Pearl is one of those flowers that can soften almost anything around it. I love pairing it with cream, blush, dusty rose, lavender, peach, or deeper plum and burgundy tones. Its gentle coloring brings light to a bouquet without making it feel washed out.

For our local florists, this is a wonderfully versatile stem. The tidy ball shape provides structure while the blush coloring works across so many palettes. It can feel romantic and feminine in one arrangement, then act as a soft neutral in another.

Pink Pearl is especially easy to imagine in wedding work. The combination of blush pink and creamy undertones feels completely at home in bridal bouquets, centerpieces, and romantic garden-style arrangements. It is soft without being overly sweet and structured without feeling stiff.

What I appreciate most about Pink Pearl is that it has been around for decades and still feels completely relevant. Introduced in 1954, it is a reminder that some dahlias do not need to be new or flashy to deserve a place in the garden—they simply need to be beautiful and useful.

For the gardener who loves soft blush color, beautifully rounded blooms, and a dahlia with timeless appeal, Pink Pearl is a lovely variety to grow.
