Tanita - Fall
Tanita is one of those dahlias that brings instant color to the field. The blooms open in a saturated fuchsia to dark pink, with hints of purple that give the flower even more depth. It is bright without feeling harsh, and that rich coloring makes it especially easy to spot when I am harvesting.
The narrow petals give Tanita a light, star-like shape with plenty of movement. At around 5 inches across, the blooms are large enough to make an impact but still a very workable size for cutting and design. Rather than feeling heavy or overly formal, the flower has an energetic, almost sculptural quality.
In our market bouquets, Tanita is the kind of dahlia I reach for when softer colors need a little life. It pairs beautifully with blush, lavender, dusty rose, burgundy, cream, and deeper plum tones, and even a few stems can give the entire bunch more personality.
For our local florists, the combination of strong color and unusual form is especially useful. Tanita brings a different silhouette to a bucket filled with round ball and decorative dahlias, while its sturdy stems make it practical for event work as well. Grower references consistently describe the plants as strong and productive.
I also love it for weddings when the palette calls for pink with a little more confidence. It can add a bold accent to romantic blush-and-mauve designs or settle beautifully into richer berry, wine, and plum combinations later in the season.
What I appreciate most about Tanita is that it offers both color and movement. It is not simply another pink dahlia—the pointed petals and deeper fuchsia tones give it an entirely different presence in the bouquet.
For the gardener who loves saturated pink color, star-like petals, and a dahlia that brings energy to the cutting garden, Tanita is a beautiful variety to grow.
